Oltre 50 operai morti e 22 ancora intrappolati. Una fuga di metano sarebbe all’origine dell’esplosione nella miniera di carbone a Tabas, nell’Iran orientale. Una tragedia che ha la sua coda in una corsa contro il tempo per salvare i lavoratori sopravvissuti ma rimasti bloccati nei tunnel. L’esplosione è avvenuta nella tarda serata di sabato, mentre circa 70 minatori erano presenti sul posto di lavoro, a 540 chilometri a sud-est di Teheran. In particolare il governatore generale della provincia del Khorasan meridionale, JavadGhanaat, ha riferito che, per effetto dell’esplosione, 22 minatori sono rimasti intrappolati nel blocco C. Diverse squadre di soccorso stanno cercando di salvarli creando un’apertura nel tunnel, dove è stata rilevata un’alta concentrazione di gas metano.

L’incidente si aggiunge alla lista di tragedie simili avvenute negli anni nelle miniere dell’Iran. Nel 2017, un’esplosione in una miniera di carbone causò almeno 42 vittime, mentre eventi precedenti, avvenuti nel 2013 e nel 2009, provocarono rispettivamente 11 e 20 morti. Gli incidenti sono spesso attribuibili a standard di sicurezza inadeguati e a scarse capacità di risposta alle emergenze nelle regioni minerarie.
Il presidente iraniano Masoud Pezeshkian, prima della sua partenza per New York, dove parteciperà all’assemblea dell’Onu, ha espresso le sue condoglianze alle famiglie delle vittime e ha incaricato i membri del suo governo di seguire da vicino l’indagine sulle cause.
